WHEATFIELD, N.Y. -- A Wheatfield man charged in connection with an armed stand off with police Monday was arranged for a felony charge Tuesday.

James E. Walcott, 46, is accused of firing two rounds from a rifle inside his home on Niagara Falls Blvd. during a domestic situation. Niagara County Sheriff Jim Voutour said a woman was able to escape the home and ran to a store to call 911.

SWAT teams responded and a shelter in place was issued for people living about a quarter mile on either side of the home.

Walcott was originally charged with one count of second-degree Reckless Endangerment and one count of second-degree Menacing, both class A misdemeanors. He was arraigned Monday on those charges. He is currently in the Niagara County jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or a $5,000 bond.

Walcott was arraigned Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the Criminal Possession of a Weapon charge.
