West Seneca leaders still mum about controversial library project

A petition in West Seneca effectively put the brakes on new spending for a controversial multi-million dollar library project.

WEST SENECA, NY - A petition drive in West Seneca effectively put the brakes on new spending for the controversial multi-million dollar library project.

But residents are still worried about the costs in the long run.

Monday night, 2 On Your Side tried to hold town leaders accountable for their decisions, but they wouldn’t agree to an interview.

They were just as tight lipped Tuesday.

Town Supervisor Sheila Meegan briefly spoke with Channel 2’s Emily Lampa this morning. She turned down an on-camera interview - instead she deferred to the resolution she read at the council meeting Monday night.

It essentially said, in response to the petition, there would be no new spending on the project. It also states there would be a review of what has been spent so far and what the costs will be to complete the project. Tax payers would get to vote on how to finance the rest of the project.

Channel 2 is still waiting for a response from town councilman Bill Hanley, Jr.

We spoke with councilman Eugene Hart, but he said he will not comment until after the review process is complete.

2 On Your Side also reached out to the library director and the president of the library board of trustees. We’re told they were in Albany Tuesday and could not be reached for comment.
