ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Walgreens pharmacies in Western New York and around the country have found a way to help combat the opioid epidemic.

Wednesday, lawmakers announced several Walgreens locations in the region will have safe medication disposal kiosks, including the Walgreens at 650 Delaware Ave in Buffalo. A kiosk is also located at 2601 Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda.

"People who are addicted to prescription opiates often begin their addiction by using unwanted and expired drugs, and they're getting them out of medicine cabinets in our own homes," said New York State Assemblyman Sean Ryan.

A total of 33 Walgreens locations statewide will have the kiosks and around 500 stores nationwide will have them.
