LOCKPORT, NY - A Lockport teen has been charged with reporting a false tip after police investigated a report of potential violence at Lockport High School and found "no credible evidence of any pending violence."
Lockport Police say they received the report of potential violence to the school Thursday morning.
In order to assure parents and students of their safety, there was increased police presence in the area around the high school Thursday morning.
Police are not commenting on the identity any high school students who may or may not have been involved.
"I strongly discourage residents from posting rumors on social media that continue to cause alarm and anxiety in the community," said Lockport Police Chief Michael F. Niethe.
Anyone with credible information concerning school violence is asked to call the Lockport Police Department at 716-433-7700.
