LOCKPORT, N.Y. -- A 14-year-old has been charged with criminal negligent homicide in connection to a fire in Lockport that killed his friend.

The suspect's name has not been released due to his age.

The Buffalo News is reporting that prosecutors say the teen set the August fire at High Tread International Facility on Ohio Street that burned for more than a day before firefighters from multiple companies were able to put it out.

Joe Phillips, who is believed to be the suspect's friend, was trapped in the burning building and died.

Prosecutors say the teenager facing charges didn't tell anyone about a call he received from Phillips asking for help.
