Students from Attica Central had to be evacuated from their school bus Tuesday morning after a fire broke out.

SHELDON, N.Y. — Students from Attica Central had to be evacuated from their school bus Tuesday morning after a fire broke out.

New York State Police were called to Maxon Road near County Route 20A just before 8 a.m. for a report of a school bus fire.

Investigators say the bus driver observed smoke coming from the engine compartment and a burning smell.

Seventeen students were on the bus at the time and were safely evacuated.

The bus was fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. A second bus arrived to take students to school.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire.
