BUFFALO, NY-- Longtime Buffalo News publisher Stanford Lipsey died Tuesday morning in California.

Lipsey served as publisher from 1983 until 2012.

Despite his leading role at the News, Lipsey may best be known for giving back to the community. According to the Buffalo News, Lipsey helped get the airport built, raised money for Roswell Park, and even brought jazz to the steps of the Albright Knox Art Gallery.

Stanford Lipsey was 89-years-old.
