TOWN OF COLLINS, N.Y. -- The Erie County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday a man has been charged in connection to a fatal shooting Wednesday evening in the Town of Collins.
A deputy responded to a report of the incident at 14725 Bagdad Road, Lot 6, at 7:38 p.m. A male suspect was seen in the doorway of the residence and was commanded to leave, then taken into custody, deputies say.
The responding deputy and a New York State Trooper entered the home and found an unresponsive male gunshot victim inside. The victim was determined to be Anthony Chipman, 46, of Gowanda.
After emergency medical responders arrived on the scene, they pronounced Chipman dead. The medical examiner's office has ruled a gunshot wound as the official cause of death.
After speaking with witnesses and with the help of the Erie County District Attorney's Office, detectives charged Brandon White, 32, of Collins with first-degree Manslaughter.
White is at the Erie County Holding Center pending an arraignment later Thursday.
A gun was found near the scene of the shooting, but detectives are still determining if it was used in the homicide.
The entire incident is still under investigation, deputies say.
