NATIONAL HARBOR, MARYLAND -- Doctors from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo traveled to Maryland for the weekend to take part in a cancer treatment conference: the 31st annual meeting of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC).

The conference that lasted through Sunday marked the largest one to date. It centered on Immunotherapy as a cancer treatment, which involves using the body's own immune systems.

2 On Your Side spoke with Roswell Park's Dr. Igor Puzanov Saturday via Skype, who said he and other doctors were gaining many valuable insights from the conference.

"What is actually nice about these combinations, very few of them have any severe side effects," he said. "(If) they do, and we know how to manage them. But most of the patients actually have good quality of life being treated with immunotherapies for their cancers."

Dr. Puzanov also said that Roswell Park is one of the leading centers nationwide for immunotherapy development.
