Remembering two Buffalo icons

Drive down East Ferry St. in Buffalo and you will pass Doris Records. The owner Mack Luchey passed away. The man who represented the Masten District in the city for nearly 20 years, David Collins also died after a brief illness.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - When former Buffalo Common Councilman David Collins walked into a room, it was pretty clear he wasn't leaving without an answer and the answer he wanted was yes!

Last week, Collins died after a brief illness. He served on the Common Council representing the Masten District for nearly 20 years. He was 79-years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke AME Zion Church, 314 E. Ferry St.

Mack Luchey, owner of Doris Records on East Ferry St. died last week. He was 82-years-old.

In a 2004 interview with 2 On Your Side, he talked about expanding his record store, long before there was a Record Theatre. His store is where people could buy concert tickets that may not be available elsewhere. The flagship store remains open.

Outside of music, Luchey was a founding member of Men Allied for the Need to Understand Prostate Cancer and the Juneteenth Festival. He was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Feb. 3 in First Shiloh Baptist Church, 15 Pine St.
