CLARENCE, N.Y. -- While Western New York's drought took a toll on many crops, there were plenty of impressive pumpkins competing in the annual Clarence World Pumpkin Weigh-off Sunday.

The event took place during the 21st Annual Fall Festival held at the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence.

Karl Haist of Clarence Center took first place in the weigh-off with his pumpkin weighing about 1,964.5 pounds -- 183 pounds more than his pumpkin that took home this title in the competition last year. Haist won $4,500 in cash.

In second place were Jim Hazeltine and his daughter, Vivian, of Delevan, N.Y. with a 1,554.5-pound pumpkin. They won $2,000 in cash.

Jeff Padraza, of West Seneca, took third with a 1,427-pound pumpkin. He also took home $1,250.

The Fall Festival, held until dusk on Sunday, also featured the Nickel City Reptile and Exotic Show and Erie County Sheriff's K-9 demonstrations.
