MEDINA, N.Y. - People in Orleans County are celebrating the opening of a big new processing plant that should bring 200 jobs to the area.

A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday afternoon at Pride Pak in Medina. It's the 68,000 square foot U.S. headquarters for Canada's largest fresh fruit and vegetable processor. Pride Pak invested $20 million in the facility and got almost $3 million from New York State in addition to low-cost power.

"We have a great agricultural community here in Orleans County, and this part of the state, and I think for what they do that's a key link to being here, to support the farmers who provide a lot of the produce, if not all the produce," said State Senator Rob Ortt.

The facility will produce about 220 tons of vegetable waste a month and all of that will be delivered to local farms for fertilizer and animal feed.
