Police searching for woman who pocketed Variety Club donation box at pizzeria

A West Seneca pizzeria posted a video on Facebook showing a woman stealing a donation box from their counter.

WEST SENECA, N.Y. — Picasso's Pizza posted a surveillance video on Facebook depicting a young woman stealing a Variety Club Telethon donation box, full of money, from their counter and putting it inside her bag.

The West Seneca pizzeria posted the caption, "Unfortunately, an individual stole our Variety Club Telethon collections box from Picasso’s Pizza in West Seneca (this AM). Anyone who might have any information, please call the West Seneca police. Thank you," with the video Tuesday afternoon.

It has since been shared over 5,000 times and viewed nearly 100,000 times.

Picasso's Pizza followed up their original post around midnight with another status, saying they are "beyond overwhelmed" by the response, making it clear they "wish no ill" to the woman and requesting time to process this.

Wednesday afternoon, the pizzeria shared in a Facebook post that they have made a $120 donation to the Variety Kid's in response to the community support they received.

West Seneca police are searching for the suspected woman.

The box is a fundraiser for Variety, the Children's Charity of Buffalo & WNY, which serves the "needs of WNY’s sick, disabled, and disadvantaged children."

Police ask if anyone has any information or can help identify the woman, call them at (716) 674-2280.
