CLARENCE, N.Y.-- New York State Police are warning residents and businesses about a scam going around in the area.

Police say a Texas-based company is trying to solicit money for t-shirts and banners for local high school sports and cheerleading teams.

State police say several Clarence businesses were contacted by a group called, "Boost Sports," asking them to donate money for Clarence High School.

High school administrators told police the school is not affiliated with any such company.

According to the State Police, Boost Sports, which was formerly known as Touchdown Sports, has been linked to scamming businesses across the country by falsely claiming to have business relationships with schools.

Police say businesses should check with local schools before donating money.
