Polar Bear Days continue through February at Buffalo Zoo

Winter weather in Buffalo might just be one of the best times to visit the Buffalo Zoo, especially with Polar Bear days offering low prices and an up-close look at several endangered animal species

No, the Buffalo Zoo isn't closed for the winter.

In fact, according to Christian Dobosiewicz, Communications Manager for the Buffalo Zoo, winter months actually represent some of the most active times for animals that might normally sleep all day during the summer months.

One group in particular that you should check out, he said, are the polar bears.

Through the month of February, Polar Bear Days will offer visitors an up-close look at two, 5-year-old polar bears for only $5. This includes Luna, the "unofficial star" of the zoo, according to Dobosiewicz.

"People love Luna," he smiled. "She's just an amazing animal. People come here and every time she's doing something new, so that's another way people can follow her story."

Luna came to The Buffalo Zoo as a cub five years ago, and three years ago she helped bring in enough support and funding to get Polar Bear Days up and running.

And it's not the only event going on this winter at The Buffalo Zoo.

Saturday, January 27th, the zoo hosts its "Cabin Fever Reliever" event, including crafts, animal demonstrations, and a live look at the polar bears, arctic foxes, and the zoo's newest snow leopard, Altai, to name a few.

You can also join this year's Valentine's Adopt-An-Animal Program, where you can "adopt" an animal for a day to "give" to someone you care for as part of a special exhibit.

And on February 22nd, the zoo will host Polar Bites, its annual wintertime fundraiser, where local restaurants gather at the Buffalo Convention Center for a food-tasting event that will raise funds to help the zoo's animals.
