BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A woman in North Buffalo made a shocking discovery Thursday when she opened up a basement wall: an artillery shell, which may date back around a century.
The artillery is believed to be from World War I, and it was found between the paneling and the foundation in the basement.
"At first I didn't know what it was, and then when I picked it up, and saw it, I was pretty nervous, so I put it down and called the police and immediately got out of the house, because I recognized it as an artillery shell of some sort," the woman, Judith Sobreski, said.
So she decided to call 911. A bomb squad, ATF agents and even the Air Force were called in to make sure everything was safe. Nobody, including dogs that lived inside the home, was hurt.
The artillery was taken by the Air Force and will be destroyed, Lt. Rinaldo of Buffalo Police said.
