NIAGARA FALLS, NY — Niagara Falls Police are investigating a fatal arson.

The fire started shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday night at 522 Niagara Street.

According to Niagara Falls Police, one male was found dead inside the home. His name has not been released.

When firefighters arrived, they found the interior of the home severely damaged by heat and smoke, with the fire having burned itself to the point where it was concentrated in a corner in the living room.

Detectives and the Niagara Falls Fire Department's Arson investigators determined that the fire was intentionally set, with three areas where it was started in different parts of the home.

An autopsy was conducted Friday morning, but it did not reveal an exact cause of death. It did rule out any stab, gun shot, or blunt trauma wounds on the deceased man.

Toxicology testing is being done, and physical evidence is being analyzed.

Foul play is not suspected, but it has not been ruled out at this time.
