Newfane High School investigating threat

A Newfane High School student was detained and questioned after making a threat Friday morning.

The Newfane Central School district is looking into a threat made by a student on Friday morning.

According to a letter to parents on the school's website from Principal Dan Bedette, a student made the threat in the hallway Friday morning. Another student overheard the conversation and reported it.

The student accused of making the threat was removed from the hallway immediately and was detained in the school's office for questioning.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office was called to assist with the investigation and also notified the student's guardian. Niagara County investigators visited the student's home as part of their investigation.

Currently, the student accused of making the threat is not facing any criminal charges. Principal Bedette stated that this incident is not connected to any prior incidents.

Bedette emphasized the importance of keeping students and staff safe in the letter, and added the importance of students coming forward if they see or hear something.
