TOWN OF BATAVIA, N.Y. -- The mother of twins killed in a Batavia house fire pleaded not guilty to two counts of endangering the welfare of a child Monday.

Heather Ace was not home, deputies said, when her twin infant boys died in a house fire in May on the first floor of a multi-family home in Batavia.

On Monday, after pleading not guilty, Ace was released under the supervision of the Genesee County Justice.

Ace will also be required to have an alcohol and drug evaluation and has been told not to consume any alcohol or drugs. The arrangement made in court included that Ace is subject to home visits.

The case will resume November 21 at 10:30 a.m.
