Man whose license was suspended, revoked 7 times arrested again

A Hamburg man with two previous DWI convictions was arrested again Sunday for felony driving while intoxicated.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — A Hamburg man, whose license had been suspended and revoked seven times for alcohol related offenses and not paying tickets, was arrested again Sunday for driving while intoxicated.

Officers stopped Joel Echeverria, 34, for speeding around 3 a.m. on Milestrip Road near Abbott Road. He was driving without a valid license.

Police impounded his car and took him to the police station where he failed field sobriety tests.

Echeverria is charged with felony driving while intoxicated. The charge was upgraded to a felony because of two previous DWI convictions and one for driving while ability impaired in the last 10 years.

Police say because he was found to be intoxicated while his license was suspended/revoked, his aggravated unlicensed operation charges were also upgraded to felonies.

Officers say Echeverria refused to take a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content.

He's also charged for driving without a court-ordered ignition interlock device, refusing a breath test, and was cited for numerous other traffic violations.
