JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- A Jamestown man has been arrested after police found various illegal drugs and a stolen, loaded gun in his vehicle near four children Friday.

Shanis K. Garcia-Guzman, 34, of Jamestown was charged after Jamestown police officers approached him for parking on the wrong side of the street at Prendergast Avenue and Crossman Street.

Officers discovered Garcia-Guzman had a small quantity of heroin, a hypodermic instrument and marijuana.

A loaded 9mm handgun was also found in an area where four young children in the vehicle could easily reach it, police say.

Later, police found out the gun was stolen from the Sherman, New York area.

Garcia-Guzman was sent to the Jamestown City Jail without an incident.

His charges include second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, fourth-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, seventh-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, four counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Parking on Pavement.
