Local students head to Washington for 'March for Our Lives'

"Maybe they'll take into account how serious we are about this, and how serious we are about voting in November and staying true to what we believe in," said Pioneer senior Erin Byers.

AMHERST, NY — Nearly 20 Western New York teenagers are leaving the University at Buffalo's South Campus to have their voices heard in Washington.

For more than a month since the Parkland, Florida shooting, Western New York teens have joined the nation-wide movement advocating for change.

It has all led up to Saturday, where half a million people are expected to march on Washington for "March of Our Lives."

"We feel like that's very, very necessary step that we have to take as future adults," said one student from Pathways Academy on Buffalo's East Side

Pioneer senior Erin Byers and some classmates have already left.

"Maybe they'll take into account how serious we are about this, and how serious we are about voting in November and staying true to what we believe in," Byers said.
