BUFFALO, NY - An emotional vigil was held Sunday night for a woman killed in a hit-and-run crash. Buffalo Police still are looking for the driver.
That crash happened three days ago, and we've been told very little about the police investigation. However, we are learning a lot more about the victim, a 40-year-old woman from Buffalo's eastside.
Her family has identified the victim of that crash as Ramona Sanders. She was very loved by her family and friends.
Sanders leaves behind six children and 11 grandchildren.
Everyone at the vigil wants to know who the driver was who struck and killed Sanders — and they want that person to either turn themself in or be caught by police.
"I would just like for the person that did this to my mother be found we really hurt we are really hurt right now, I can't talk no more, I can't," said Latika Hyshaw, the victim's daughter.
Sanders' mother was overcome with emotion.
Family say Sanders lived in the Ferry Grider Homes on the East Side. On Thursday night, they say she was walking alone to cross East Ferry Street to go to the store. In a flash, she was hit by a vehicle that kept going.
"That's tragic when we lose a loved one we know that is tragic and it's senseless and it's trifling that someone would dare do that and not stop Amen, to deal with the consequences of their actions," said Pastor James Giles of Buffalo Peacemakers.
"If this was your mother, your sister, your daughter, what would you do? Y'all killing my family and it's not right what you did was wrong," said Lona Wright, a family relative.
Buffalo Police have released a blurry surveillance photo of a vehicle that may've been involved. But, we haven't been given a make or model or even a color of the vehicle.
2 On Your Side's Jeff Preval asked Buffalo Police for an update on the investigation. Police say they've talked to some witnesses, but there have been no major developments.
Meantime, this family grieves, coping with tremendous loss.
"She was a nice loving mother," said Bernard Jackson, Sanders' stepfather.
At the vigil, her kids released balloons, hoping they reach their mother above.
There is a Go Fund Me page that has been setup for Sanders' kids. Her wake is scheduled for Thursday and the funeral will be on Friday. The family says a location has not been determined yet.
