SALAMANCA, NY — For Tyler and Hannah, students at Prospect Elementary in Salamanca, summer reading is, well just part of summer. For Principal Gayle Pavone, making sure all her students had their summer reading required a little creativity.

"We were going to send the book packs home at the end of the school year, and the UPS truck literally pulled in just as the busses were pulling out so we had to come up with a different idea to get these books into the hands of these kids so they could read over summer," Pavone said.

The Great Book Delivery was born.

Teachers, librarians, and staff from the Salamanca Schools headed out into the community and delivered the books to the student's home — 8,000 books in all.
