Former County Executive considering a run for Governor

Joel Giambra is considering running for Governor of New York State in 2018.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Joel Giambra isn't doing interviews just yet, but he promised to speak soon when asked by 2 On Your Side if he will run for Governor of New York State.

It has been confirmed that the former Erie County Executive is seriously considering running for Governor and he's interested in getting the Republican nomination.

Former Congressman Tom Reynolds (R), who is now a Senior Policy Advisor for Holland and Knight said Giambra needs support from upstate and downstate. "He must build an image across the state," and build up his campaign finances to ignite Republicans.

Proclaiming to be a Moderate Republican may not fly in New York politics, said Reynolds.

"Right now the Republicans have to produce a viable opponent to be competitive to Andrew Cuomo."

Reynolds also added that the way George Pataki was able to pull off a win as a Republican may not work for Giambra.

"The state Republican Conservative infrastructure was different in 1994 than in 2018 when this race comes about, so 14 years later there are less Republicans and more Democrats and Independent voters certainly have a strong makeup as well," according to the former Congressman.

Giambra is currently Managing Director for Park Strategies, LLC.
