FBI raids at CCS Oncology

The FBI confirms to 2 On Your Side that it is conducting "court authorized activity" at multiple locations of CCS Oncology.

BUFFALO, NY - The FBI confirms to 2 On Your Side that it is conducting "court authorized activity" at multiple locations of CCS Oncology.

The FBI says no arrests are expected, and no further information was provided by the bureau.

This follows a judge's ruling last week that granted Bank of America the right to seize assets from CCS Oncology.

Last year, the bank filed a federal lawsuit against CCS, because the cancer treatment provider had defaulted on loans the bank had provided in the millions of dollars.

In the meantime, Robert Trusiak, the attorney for CCS Oncology says that the Justice Department for over three years, has been conducting a Medicare fraud investigation of CCS.

Trusiak says the FBI obtained a search warrant for CCS's WNY locations, which include offices in Williamsville, Kenmore, Orchard Park and Niagara Falls.

"There is a specific listing of various servers that contain records related to the search warrant," Trusiak said. He added that the FBI is looking to secure information CCS has; and that the cancer treatment provider has been cooperative during the investigation and that the raids weren't necessary.

"The only thing that the United States had to do was ask, it would've received more documents like its received the half a million documents that its already received," Trusiak said.

Meantime, patients tell 2 On Your Side that they were turned away from their appointments, as the FBI conducted its work. CCS says that it plans to resume operations on Wednesday.

"CCS does look forward to a resumption of the deliberative approach to this matter despite the speed bump of today and working through this concern in a way that is fair to the government and fair to CCS," Trusiak said.

Meantime, CCS continues to serve patients and accept new patients.

Catholic Health, Roswell Park, and Buffalo Medical Group have also partnered to meet the needs of patients.

According to Catholic Health, they've set up a call center, intended as a resource for patients and families affected by the disruption in services.

That call center number is 716-706-2100, and patients who have been instructed to seek care, or who are now looking for alternative providers or cancer treatment services, can call between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
