Family remembers 11-year-old killed in crash

Sydney Sidote's family remembers her as a fearless young girl.

EDEN, N.Y. -- It's been just ten days since an Eden family lost a daughter and sister. Sydney Sidote, 11, was killed in a dirt bike accident near her home on July 7.

Tuesday, we met two of her siblings who want their sister to be remembered as a spirited young girl.

"She was fearless. She loved the outdoors. She loved her friends. She loved her family," says Sydney’s sister, Emilee Gallivan.

Sidote loved living in the moment, whether it was her passion for snowboarding, going out on the four-wheeler or riding her dirt bike, she wasn't one to sit on the sidelines.

"If she wasn't riding here, she was riding with our cousin, Sara," says Sydney’s brother, Bryan.

"And they would always take the dirt bikes apart and work on it and she just liked getting her hands dirty, which is unusual sometimes, but she loved it," says Gallivan.

Sidote lost her life when she hit a car while riding dirt bikes with her cousin near her home.

"Just this summer, she fell off the bike like two or three times, had giant scrapes on her arms," said Bryan Sidote.

"I just thought she was going to be okay because she was always okay," says Gallivan.

In the days since the accident, Bryan and Emilee have been spending a lot of time with their parents to find strength as a family.

"I've been really proud of them over the last few days, they're just trying to remind themselves of what they still have and like are blessed for the memories that they have of Sydney and I've just been really impressed by their strength," says Bryan Sidote.

They have also been sharing memories and stories about Sydney to focus on the good times they shared.

"She just did what she wanted to do, which has like ironically been a lesson to all of us since everything has happened, we've all just been trying to live a little bit more," says Bryan Sidote.

"Freely probably," says Gallivan.

"Yeah. More fearless. More just for yourself, like not so afraid of what's going to happen," added Bryan Sidote.

"She just touched a lot of people in her short life. She did. Everyone she met, I feel like she left a mark on them," reflected Gallivan.

There is a Go Fund Me page set up to help Sydney's family. So far, the community has raised more than 14-thousand dollars far surpassing the goal of 10-thousand.
