ALBANY, NY-- A local firefighter is being honored at the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Albany.

Assistant Chief Barry Miller with the Bergen Fire Department died when the ambulance he was riding in crashed in the Town of Riga last September.

The annual event adds names to a memorial wall of firefighters who died in recent years or decades ago. With this year's ceremony, there will 2,406 names on the wall at the Empire State Plaza across the street from the Capitol. The names date back to 1811 after the memorial was first dedicated in 1998.

Last month, the Post Office in Bergen was renamed after Miller. He served as an EMT and volunteer fireman for 31 years.
