DWI Suspect Crashes into Playground

City of Tonawanda Police arrested two people for drunk driving Sunday, including one man who crashed into a playground.

CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Police made two drunk driving arrests Sunday, including one man who crashed into a playground.

It happened just before 5 a.m. Sunday.

Divine J. Garcia, 28, of Buffalo, lost control while turning at Hackett Drive and Hamilton Street, drove over the curb, and crashed through a fence and into the playground area of Riverview School, according to City of Tonawanda Police.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, imprudent speed, criminal mischief, and cited for other traffic violations.

Police say Garcia refused a breath test. He was arrested and held on $250 bail.

Officers arrested a Tonawanda woman and charged her in connection with a separate crash that happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Ann Marie F. Hollerud, 32, was charged with DWI, aggravated DWI, and cited for an unsafe turn and imprudent speed.

Police say she made a sharp turn to avoid hitting jersey barriers on Young Street and that caused her vehicle to slide sideways through the intersection of Main and Young.

Police say Hollerud had a blood alcohol content of .19.
