BUFFALO, NY-- Crews started spraying part of the Erie Canal, as well as Ellicott Creek and Tonawanda Creek Tuesday to fight an aggressive water plant.

The DEC hired a contractor to spray the water to deal with hydrilla.

You may have already noticed signs along Tonawanda Creek over the last few days.

The DEC says residents should not swim in the water until a day after the date posted on the signs.
