SPRINGVILLE, NY-- A 7-year-old girl who was pinned under a school bus in Springville Friday afternoon has died.
The accident happened on W. Main Street.
The victim was taken to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital where she later passed away.
Saturday, the victim was identified as Alyssa Hearn by her father and Springville-Griffith Superintendent Kimberly Moritz.
It was also announced that a vigil will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Springville-Griffith Institute, 290 N. Buffalo St., Springville, to remember Alyssa.
Friday night, Springville School Superintendent Kimberly Moritz issued the following statement:
"I’m very sorry to inform you that there was a tragic accident this afternoon involving a Springville-Griffith school bus and one of our students. The Springville Griffith community will do all it can to support our students and families in the wake of this tragedy. The District will have crisis counselors available for students, faculty, staff and families who need assistance tomorrow at the Springville Elementary School from 10:00 to 12:00 tomorrow, and as needed going forward.
The District is working with authorities to determine the cause of the accident and to determine what can be done in the future to prevent similar tragedies. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time."
