BUFFALO, NY-A new arrival at the Buffalo Zoo is almost certainly enjoying our recent stretch of cold and snowy weather.
'Altai', a one-year-old male snow leopard arrived this month from the Akron Zoo in October where he was one of three cubs born in March, 2016.
In announcing the addition Friday, zoo officials say its newest cat is adjusting well to his new habitat.
Altai is named after the Altai Republic and Altai Mountain Range. He will share space with the Zoo's two-year-old female snow leopard, Sabrina.
Their introduction is part of a breeding recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Species Survival Plan for snow leopards. There are an estimated 5,000 left in the wild and approximately 600-700 in zoos around the world.
The Buffalo Zoo's snow leopards can be found in the Zoo's Vanishing Animals North area.
