BUFFALO, N.Y.-- The Buffalo Police Department unveiled a new police substation at Canalside on Saturday, which officials hope will help events run more smoothly.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced plans for the substation in February, to help strengthen security and enhance the police presence at Canalside.
“Making sure our city residents and visitors have an enjoyable experience in Buffalo is a top priority of my administration, and the new temporary Canalside police substation will help further enhance safety and security at one of our City’s most popular new destinations,” Mayor Brown said in a statement.
The substation, which is located at Marine Drive and Hanover, will be open for police to use from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. and for special events as needed.
Other security measures that have been added to Canalside include double fencing at perimeters, better lighting, and enhanced security screenings.
