TONAWANDA, N.Y. -- Alfred Angelo customers are scrambling for answers after the bridal shop closed without warning, leaving some Western New Yorkers searching for alternatives with upcoming weddings approaching.

Thousands of customers state and nationwide are worried, with dresses in limbo, after the national chain Alfred Angelo Bridal filed for bankruptcy in Florida, according to a recent USA Today article.

The only Alfred Angelo location in Western New York is on Niagara Falls Boulevard. Those who visited the store Friday encountered a dark building and a "store closed" sign out front. Many have not been given any information about the status of a dress that may be inside the store or being shipped there.

"Right now I have no dress, I'm out of $400, but my concern is too, those brides that are getting married very shortly, they have no dress; their bridesmaids have no dresses, and those people who were kind to me, have no job," said Vicki Devantier, of Lewiston, a mother-of-the-bride who ordered her $400 dress from the shop.

Devantier was told the dress was in the manufacturing phase and would be sent to her directly from the factory, but she still feels uncertain about when the dress may arrive.

Lauren Kirchmyer, who will be a bridesmaid in her friend's wedding this November, is also waiting to see what happens with her dress. She was originally told it would arrive in August.

"We're in limbo. Are we getting our dresses? Are we not getting our dresses? Haven't heard anything yet," Kirchmyer said.

A bankruptcy lawyer for the company told USA Today that Alfred Angelo will try to fulfill all orders.

The Office of Attorney General Schneiderman says it has been in contact with Alfred Angelo and it recommends that affected customers file a complaint here.

Customers can also reach the retailer's attorney, Patricia Redmond, Esquire, at: (305) 789-3553,, or 150 West Flagler Street, Miami, Florida 33130, the AG's Office says.

Anyone reaching out is asked to provide a name, contact information, where/when the dress was purchased, payment method, when the dress was expected to arrive, the amount paid, a detailed description of what was ordered, and a receipt or receipts.
