NORTH TONAWANDA, NY - Officials are hoping surveillance cameras in the area may show them what caused a 31-foot motorboat to wind up on the bottom of the Erie Canal near the Remington Lofts.
Fire officials say the owner was on his way to work shortly after 7 A.M. Tuesday when he stopped to check on the boat and found it on its side.
The Coast Guard, DEC and Niagara County Haz-Mat were called in to deal with the resulting fuel leak. A salvage crew was brought in and used air bags to bring the craft to the surface. It's believed to be a total loss.
