Attached garage fire spreads to Lancaster home

The homeowner told fire officials there were several things charging in the garage at the time the fire broke out.

LANCASTER, N.Y. — Volunteer firefighters spent part of their Memorial Day holiday putting out a smoky fire in Lancaster.

Fire officials tell 2 On Your Side flames broke out in an attached garage on Peppermint Road on Monday afternoon and spread to the house. The blaze was reported at about 1:30 p.m.

The fire chief says it's a total loss. All three people at the house at that time were able to escape without any injuries.

As for a possible cause, the homeowner told fire officials there were several things charging in the garage at the time the fire broke out, including a car and some tools. 

The Red Cross was brought in to help the family.
