AMC Theater adds to growing Main Street

The AMC Theater adds another attraction to Main Street, which is growing with restaurants, shops and entertainment.

BUFFALO, NY - Main Street is transforming into an area of Buffalo where people can live, work and have fun.

"The transformation down here over the past 25 years is nothing but amazing, if you take a look around," said Michael Schmand, the executive director of Buffalo Place.

From office buildings, to apartments and restaurants -- to new construction like One Seneca Tower -- and relatively new places to go like the Expo Market and Hatches and Hops -- where you can drink -- hopefully responsibly -- and do some target practice.

But, the engine that's been running things over the past couple of years is bringing cars back to Main Street. The lower portion of Main Street is being worked on now.

"It's going to be about a year and a half to be completed and the reason for that is we want to provide minimal disruption for the businesses that are down there," said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

"Cars on Main Street is a huge step for a lot of different reasons it wasn't just so people can be dropped off, it's part of the safety you're walking down a dead street and you don't see cars coming you feel isolated," Schmand said.

That's how people used to feel years ago, when cars weren't here and not much else.

"It was very barren wide sidewalks, the lighting down here was horrific," Schmand said, "I think you're going to continue see older buildings transformed into residential down here in the future I think you'll see condominiums in the downtown area."
