3 Erie County roads won't be repaved this year

And, the projects will be delayed until next year.

TONAWANDA, N.Y. - On Ellicott Creek Road in Tonawanda, according to state traffic data, between 3,000 and 8,000 drivers use this road everyday.

Ellicott Creek Road was on the county's list of streets to be repaved, the work was supposed to be between Niagara Falls Boulevard and the town line with the City of Tonawanda.

But, we have not seen any work done here.

The Erie County Department of Public Works says this project, and a couple others will not be done, this year because of heavy rain last month.

Another road that won't be repaved, Pleasant View Drive between Transit and Stony Road in Lancaster, which thousands of drivers use.

Not only is weather to blame, but also underground water issues.

And finally, in Amherst, North Forest Road from Sheridan to Maple will be put off until next year.

REPORTER: Why can't the bidding process start earlier so that so that the first day of some nice weather you guys can start rolling?

"We try to do that every year and that's an excellent question there's always something that comes in a lot with the bonding we need bonding approval," said Charles Sickler, the deputy highway commissioner for Erie County.

He says that ideally, the best process is to have funding in place the year prior, so that doesn't become an issue during the paving season. The county says it has spent more than $35 million on roads this year.
