BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Saturday will mark the 22nd annual Ride for Roswell, but Friday marked the emotional peak of the event at Roswell Park: it's the annual Celebration of Hope.
Close to 200 of the top fundraisers rode out through the city under police escort to U.B. as part of The Peloton ride, which wrapped up with the celebration. They're all getting ready to kick off an event that raised $4.6 million dollars last year.
The money is critical funding for research and medical developments.
There was a new element this year -- a torch lighting ceremony.
Like the Special Olympics, a flame rode its way on the Peloton and will light riders' way Saturday.
The Saturday's race covers 400 miles through 14 communities and two countries, thanks to the route that runs through Canada.
