2 killed in South Buffalo fire Monday morning

Police say a 73-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were taken to Mercy Hospital Monday morning where they were later declared dead.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two people were killed in connection to a fire Monday morning in South Buffalo, according to Buffalo Police.

Firefighters responded to the call around 1:40 a.m. on Amber Street, in between Hopkins Street and South Park Avenue. 

Police say a 73-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were taken to Mercy Hospital Monday morning where they were later declared dead. A dog also died in the fire.

Investigators believe the fire started in an upper apartment where both lived. Police say one person, who lived in the lower apartment, was not injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
