NYSEG: Squirrel caused outages Sunday afternoon

NYSEG says WNY customers should all have their power restored.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Power has been restored to NYSEG customers in WNY Sunday afternoon.

NYSEG's Outage Map showed 16 outages affecting 12,673 customers, mainly around Lancaster and Alden early Sunday afternoon.

2 On Your Side spoke with NYSEG, who told us a squirrel got into the substation and made contact between two units, causing an electrical surge that took out the substation and two other stations nearby.

Crews were sent out and as of 3 p.m., NYSEG says WNY customers should all have their power restored.
