ELMA, N.Y. -- The Erie County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help as they look into 10 recent thefts from vehicles in Elma.

Check books, purses, money, and bank cards were among items taken from vehicles in the Homeward Place and Aurora Street areas. While some of the vehicles were unlocked, others were badly damaged as thieves attempted to break into them to steal items inside.

The Sheriff's Office is asking those with information about the thefts, or security cameras in the area that may have captured them on camera, to call deputies at 716-858-2903.

Sheriff Howard is also reminding everyone to not only lock vehicles, but to also make sure no valuable items are inside when vehicles are unattended.
