BUFFALO, NY - Local leaders are coming together Tuesday evening to commemorate those lost to opioid addiction in Erie County in recognition of Black Balloon Day.
Black Balloon Day serves to raise awareness about the addiction.
Residents place a single black balloon outside their home in recognition of the opioid epidemic and the impact of addiction in local communities.
On March 6, Erie County leaders like DA John Flynn, County Executive Mark Poloncarz, Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein, and U.S. Attorney James Kennedy, will be on the steps of Old Erie County Hall at 6 p.m.
They'll be speaking about the epidemic, as well as commemorating those who lost their battle with addiction.
The Erie County Department of Health Opiate Epidemic Task Force will also be at the event.
