LOCKPORT, NY-- A school bus driver accused of being drunk behind the wheel with students on board appeared before a Town of Lockport judge Tuesday.

Diane Nelson, 58, faces 32 counts of child endangerment, felony Leandra's Law DWI and driving while ability impaired by drugs after teachers became suspicious she had allegedly been drinking while transporting a class on a field trip.

Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour says his deputies responded to the Allie Brandt Bowling Lanes following a report from the principal of Anna Merritt School that a bus driver who left the school to take 32 children to the lanes appeared to be intoxicated.

Nelson was arrested after failing a breathalyzer test. Nelson's attorney George Muscato says the case could now go to a grand jury. She's due back in court in January.
