BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Some of Buffalo's best businesses that are owned by women and minorities made their case to win a big contest Thursday night.

Three finalists were on stage at the Buffalo Museum of Science for a contest called "The Pitch." It's an off-shoot of the popular 43North business competition, but with a focus on women and minorities.

What was at stake? $20,000 dollars in prizes.

"For some people, that money means hiring another person, expanding their reach into our community, new production lines, or new products... that type of thing," said Colleen Heidinger of 43North.

Congratulations go out to Karibu News, a multi-lingual newspaper aimed towards immigrants and new Americans, who won the $10,000 dollar grand prize.

The two runners up got $5,000 dollars each.
