Poverty rates exceed 35% in eight WNY neighborhoods, but fall below 5% in seven others

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Eight Western New York neighborhoods -- six in Buffalo and two in Niagara Falls -- carry poverty rates that are higher than 35 percent. That means that more than one-third of the residents of those areas are classified as poor by the U.S. Census Bureau.

At the opposite end of the scale are seven neighborhoods in suburban Buffalo with poverty rates lower than five percent, according to the latest federal data.
