ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Erie County SPCA was asked to help after a massive case of animal hording in the Albany area was uncovered.

More than 230 animals were rescued after living in an unsanitary in a home; most of them had no access to food or water.

Animal care workers removed more than 100 birds, including ducks, geese, pigeons and chickens, about 50 rabbits, 35 dogs, 12 goats and several cats from the house.

The Erie County SPCA was called to help because they have experience, capability and ability to handle these cases.  Many of the rabbits, goats and birds were transported to the SPCA here to be treated and then adopted.

The 56-year-old homeowner is now facing animal cruelty charges.
