Firefighters deliver toys to sick children

The Buffalo Professional Firefighters Local 282 collected toys all through December to deliver to patients at John R. Oishei Children's hospital.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Young hospital patients received some special presents Thursday, thanks to the Buffalo Fire Department.

Firefighters stopped by the new John R. Oishei Children's Hospital with red bags filled with stuffed animals.

The Buffalo Professional Firefighters Local 282 has been collecting the toys all month long. Oishei Hospital officials say their generous efforts are helping bring holiday cheer to the patients and their families.

“Being here can be very stressful. Having such generous souls like the firefighters come and share some Christmas cheer and some gifts for the kids and their families…it will bring smiles to all of them here,” a hospital spokesperson said.

The participating firefighters told 2 On Your Side that they felt honored to personally deliver the toys to the children. This was the second year local firefighters have collected and donated toys to the hospital.
