Kate Goes Off the Grid for National Day of Unplugging

We text, we tweet, we retweet, snap and share status updates. Researchers determined that last year American adults spent more than four hours a day looking at their phones. This weekend, we are being challenged to put down our digital devices and reconnect with the real world.

The rules for the National Day of Unplugging are pretty simple: put your phone (and your tablet and your laptop) down for 24 hours. It runs from sundown March 9th to sundown March 10th.

The idea is that Americans spend hours online and so much time looking at their phones they can miss what's going on around them. The National Day of Unplugging encourages people to disconnect from their digital devices so they can reconnect with real life and actual people.

Thousands of people have taken the pledge to unplug for a day.

Daybreak's Kate Welshofer took on a miniature version of challenge. She gave up her phone for an hour. Predictably, the results were ridiculous and Kevin O'Neill may still be stuck in a sculpture outside of the station.

So, would you give up your phone for 24 hours? How about 24 minutes? Maybe just try the amount of time it takes to write Kate a letter to tell her about your unplugged experience.
