Unique Eats: This Little Pig

In this week's Unique Eats, we go to a Williamsville restaurant for some Americana eats that will leave you squealing for more.

This little piggy went to market. This little piggy stayed home. You know the nursery rhyme.

Well, a lesser known little piggy headed to Main Street and Transit Road near the Eastern Hills Mall where it became the name of a restaurant serving up Americana eats.

"So, it's like regional stuff from basically down south," Jeff Cooke, co-owner of This Little Pig, said. "A lot of stuff in the northeast. A lot of stuff that has some German and Polish roots. The Southern stuff is from our travels. Some out west we've picked up along the way and put our own little twist on."

Just five minutes ago, owners Mandy and Jeff Cooke opened the doors on This Little Pig with the goal of offering casual fine dining: good food, reasonable prices, kid friendly and fast.

"We were looking for a neighborhood restaurant that was in our neighborhood that served the food that we like to eat and the kind of place we like to eat in," Cooke explained. "Which there wasn't anything around here. So, that's where we got the idea."

Coming from the kitchen, you will find fresh focaccia, hand tossed pizzas and a sizable cheeseburger...with bacon, of course.

There is also a seasonal menu, including a surf and turf plate. That plate includes an 8 ounce fillet and a 7 ounce lobster tail swimming...or perhaps we could say slopping...in butter. Almost everything in This Little Pig is made from scratch and local.

"We really focus on farm to table here as much as we possibly can," Cooke said. "It's a little bit tougher here in the Buffalo area but we do the best we can. Get to market often and use local farmers."

There are desserts, too, like a 12 layer refrigerator cake. There are also drinks. You will find locally sourced spirits on the shelves and five WNY beers on tap. At Sunday brunches, you can expect a full Bloody Mary bar, too.

This Little Pig is open Tuesday through Friday for lunch, Tuesday through Saturday for dinner and brunch on Sundays. You can find the hours on their Facebook page.
